Establishing Your New Year’s Resolution for the “Workplace”

What started out as “working from home for a couple weeks” has turned into an entire year in the blink of an eye. As we stay optimistic that normalcy will return in 2021, it is a good time to set resolutions that will help you keep you focus while you continue to work from your home office. Here are a few resolutions to consider that will help you push full steam ahead as you plan this year’s event:

Take a Lunch Break Everyday

We are all guilty of plugging away then glancing at the time only to realize that it’s already 2 pm! Being productive is always a good thing, especially when you have all the distractions that come with working from your living room. However, it is incredibly important to allow yourself, even 30 minutes, to grab a bite to eat so you can fuel your body and mind. Set an alarm on your calendar or your phone and give yourself a reminder to take a lunch break and give your body the sustenance it needs to so you can sell booth space all afternoon.

Take a Walk at Least Once a Day

Staying active is a great way to keep your mind stimulated, so reward yourself with a walk around the neighborhood (or any exercise of your choice) to break up the day. Sitting at a desk all day can be tiring and isn’t good for your body. Not only does sitting around affect your body, but it can also affect your mind. The next time you are working on eNewsletters for your hybrid event and have a mental block creating content, take a step outside and get your blood flowing!

Stay Hydrated

When was the last time you took a sip of water? No, the pot of coffee you consumed this morning does not count! Staying hydrated is essential when it comes to taking care of yourself, so you should make it a point to drink lots of water throughout the day. A great way to keep tabs on your fluid intake is by drinking from a hydration bottle that sets goals throughout the day! Maybe you don’t want to go out of your way and buy another water bottle so instead make it a game with yourself. Every time you receive an email, take a sip of water!

Find a Work Life Balance

You have a busy work schedule. From setting up your online directory, to analyzing reports through the show management dashboard, it’s extremely easy to allow your entire day to be consumed by work, especially when you work from home. This year, try and set up boundaries so you can still have a favorable work life balance. Although the lines of the two are blurred since you work from home, that doesn’t mean you have to be all work and no play. Enjoy breakfast away from your email and clock off mentally in the evenings. By allowing yourself time outside of your work persona, you will be a more focused worker when you are on the clock!

Hopefully we will be back to normal soon and we no longer have to work from our living rooms, but until then, it is still important to take care of yourself! You can still be an efficient employee and have a life outside of work. Give your new year’s resolution your all and let 2021 will bring you health and happiness!
